The construction of the fortress began in the 12th century to defend the Cathedral of Dol and independence of Brittany. The great writer and politician François-René de Chateaubriand, spent his childhood. Since then, the castle of Combourg French literature is considered as the cradle of romance. Completely restored in 1876, it is still inhabited by the descendants of the author. Domestic tour includes seven parts over the ramparts. ** ** Opening hours - from 6 February to 7 March (closed Saturdays) and Chateau Park from 14h to 17h. - April, May, June, September (closed on Saturdays [excluding holidays weekend] and Sunday morning): Chateau and Park 10am to 12.30pm and from 14h to 18h - indoor tour in the morning and several afternoon ( last departure at 17h) - July and August: Chateau and Park daily from 10am to 12.30pm and 14h to 18h, indoor tour in the morning and several afternoon (last departure at 17h)
